Janine Verge has worked as a clinical audiologist for the past 23 years. She obtained her BSc (Psychology) at Mount Saint Vincent University, her MSc (Audiology) from Dalhousie University, and her AuD from A.T. Still University. Janine won the 2009 NSHSC Advocacy Award, the 2013 NSHSC Dr. Barrie Coward Continuing Educational Award, the 2017 NSHSC Outstanding Performance Award, the 2019 Speech-Language and Audiology Canada Mentorship Award, and the 2021 Canadian Academy of Audiology President's Award. She served as president of the Speech and Hearing Association of Nova Scotia from 2010-2013. She was a board member of the Canadian Academy of Audiology from 2016- 2021 and is an adjunct professor at Dalhousie University.
Advocacy has always been an important issue to Janine. She is co-founder of the Dalhousie Hearing Aid Assistance Program which provides hearing aids for people with funding problems. Janine has single sided deafness from infancy and became an audiologist to help others with hearing loss. Growing frustration with the lack of community accessibility, she started Accessible Hearing Solutions Inc. with her business partner, Duncan Floyd. After graduating from Dalhousie’s School of Human Communication Disorders in 1996, Duncan Floyd has practiced audiology in three countries. He has worked in his home province of Nova Scotia, at Sichuan University in Cheng-du, China, and with Northern Maine ENT Associates in the great American state of Maine. Duncan has worked in medical settings with both adults and pediatrics and in education. He was the Clinical Education Coordinator for Audiology at the School of Human Communication Disorders from 2006-2017.
Duncan has extensive experience in training as the clinical coordinator, as a supervising audiologist, as a lecturer (acoustic immittance measures and counseling) and with resident training of the Dalhousie University ENT program. Duncan has worked with hearing aids and assistive listening devices. He has co-authored several research publications on middle ear analysis and has served on many national and provincial committees.
