SHIFT EQUITY is a FREE public conference dedicated to advancing conversations
about themes on (in)equity and accessibility. It is concerned with the intersection of
     equity and space.

Accessible Hearing Solutions is a gold sponsor for this event and is providing assistive
devices to improve accessibility for attendees who are hard of hearing.

How to Access the Assistive Listening Devices at this conference:

Picture
  • The conference will be equipped with an Induction Hearing Loop for both the presentations and the registration desk.
  • Attendees who have a hearing aid or cochlear implant with a telecoil can directly access the conference audio to help overcome the effects of background noise, distance, and reverberant acoustics in the room.
  • To use, set your hearing aid or cochlear implant to the “T” or “telecoil” setting.
  • For the registration desk, make sure to stand within one meter of the counter loop.
  • For the presentation, make sure to sit in the designated area that is looped. You can tell where by the blue international symbol of access for hearing loss (above).
  • If you have hearing aids or a cochlear implant and you are not sure if the device has a telecoil, ask your hearing healthcare provider.  If the telecoil is inside, request that you learn how to activate it prior to attending the conference.
  • For attendees who do not have telecoils inside their devices or who do not have hearing aids at all, a number of personal assistive listeners/headsets will be available for loan.  Please ask to borrow one at the registration desk and return at the end of each conference day. Please see below for a picture of a personal assistive listener and a user guide.

What Our Clients Are Saying

“When we started on this journey towards broader accessibility, we had a lot to learn. We thought first of visible physical disabilities amongst our patrons. Our first projects involved lifts and ramps. The need for hearing assist technologies is massive, in all public facilities, not just cultural. Our average patron is 50+ and many have hearing challenges. There isn’t another area of accessibility improvement we could embrace that will impact more of our patrons. Janine and her team facilitated our project in so many ways, from needs assessment to education to securing funding to installation. Now that the technology is in place, she and the team will help us introduce it to our community. The collaboration with Accessible Hearing Solutions was instrumental in bringing this vision to life. The company provided not only the technology but also comprehensive training for staff, ensuring they can assist patrons in making the most of the hearing loops and assistive listening technology. This partnership underscores the Pictou Cultural Hub’s broader mission to break down barriers and create a truly inclusive space for everyone.” — Troy Greencorn, deCoste Performing Arts Centre
